Things to Know before Buying a Second Hand Laptop

Planning to buy a new laptop, but don’t have enough money for it. Don’t worry! You always have the option of buying a second hand laptop for you. However, in order to make sure that you don’t make a bad purchase, you must keep a few things in mind. We have discussed a few with you here:

Your needs and requirements

You must always know the purpose for which you will need the laptop, before buying one. You can thereby pick one easily. Know your storage requirements, portability of the laptop, type of applications required, battery life, capacity of RAM and other such things. These will help you in selecting the most appropriate one that will match all your needs.

If you already have a particular laptop in mind, you must look for its specific features and specifications online and take a print out of all. Match it with the specs of the second hand laptop and then make a purchase.

Check out the laptop’s body and its screen

You must ensure to check the laptop’s body thoroughly. Check if the frame of the laptop is smooth and free from any dents or cracks. Also, make sure that all of the screws are intact and do not have any loose hinges. Check for any irregularities on the body.

Also, ensure that the screen of the laptop is in a good working condition. See if the screen is flickering or discolored. The best way to check this is to see a video. Also, check the viewing angle of the video is wide enough.

Check for the keyboard and touchpad

Since the keyboard and touchpad in a laptop are quite necessary for a laptop, you must ensure their proper working. You must carefully check for any broken keys. Also, see if you can comfortably type on the keyboard. If you notice too many mistakes while typing, it is better that you check out for another piece.

Try out the gestures that the touchpad of the laptop supports. These may include pinch to zoom, two-finger scroll and various other such. If the touchpad includes the mouse keys, ensure that you can easily press them.

Test the ports, wireless connectivity, and CD drive

Make sure to check all the input ports including the USB ports, headphone jack, Ethernet port, HDMI, SD card slot, etc. Also, ensure to check the CD/DVD drive by playing a CD or DVD. This is necessary as many of these input ports are attached to the motherboard that can be really costly to replace.

Another thing to ensure is that the laptop gets connected to Wi-Fi. Therefore, view the network connectivity and ensure that it works without any hassle.
